I think number 1 or #3 best fit the spirit of the competition

I agree that #1 and #3 probably fit this challenge the best and of the two I prefer #3. But, for grabbing my interest, I really like #5, I'd crop out the left side of it and a bit of the bottom to remove uninteresting distractions and maybe play with straightening it a bit. :thumb

VirginiaVirginia - thanks for the input. Interesting point on #5. I originally did exactly that however I was concerned that losing the elements of the photo that proved this a "roll-up" gate would affect the play on words in the title "Hollywood Roll" so I put them back in.

Angelo I like the third one. I punched it up a bit. I hope you don't mind.

Angelo,
I really like the punched up version of #3. Fits the challenge nicely and is an interesting subject.
BTW, why no entry into the last challenge?

Angelo,
#3 all the way, in my book.
Great work. :thumb

#3 is an intriguing image maybe a perspective with a little sharper angle would pull better and creat a disapearing point of sorts that might work a little better then the straight on perspective.
I love shooting in downtown Hollywood, I have not been there for a walk around day in about 6 months. You images remind me it is time to do it again.

Oops. :uhoh I didn't "get" the significance of the title. In fact, I'm not sure what a "roll up" gate is. :scratch But even knowning the reason for not cropping, I think I would like it better cropped. Whatever -- and even though maybe not your choice for this challenge -- I really like the picture. :clap

#5 does it for me. There is definitely a pattern in the roll door. Then #3 makes for a great shot.

That's good juicing Labby, thanks. If I copy your efforts I wonder if I still qualify for the challenge?

VirginiaThanks again for your compliment. A rollup is a steel gate that covers a storefront window. You roll it up by pulling on the chain on the left of the photo.

Thanks but I tried several angles and came up with nothing better. These meters had garbage on both ends.

thanks Dave. Seems it's a winner. Now I just have to punch it up as well as labby did. Thanks for looking.

How did I miss your post? Man I must be slippin! Anyway, good to see ya back at it. "apt. 109" is a serious contender. And the punching the contrast really seals the deal IMO. Really great shot. I'm not having much luck so far, but I'm hoping that somehow I'll catch a break.
hoping this message finds you well -Ian
