Hello fellow egret lovers:D
Yesterday I called my shooting buddy Harry and invited him to join me for a day trip to a rookery in St. Augustine, FL. He agreed and off we went.
A rookery is a natural breeding/nesting habitat. A boardwalk was built around this area for viewing and shooting.
All I can say is ..do you remember how you felt as a kid on Christmas morning...the year you got something you REALLY wanted??? That is the only way I can sort of explain how I felt when I saw the photo op before me. .
Spectacular scenerios at every turn..I am still on a high from being there. I shot about 400 shots and have yet to look them all over.
Here is one i really like: A great Egret guarding her nest and putting on quite a show

Our snowy egrets were doing the same thing, but I had to shoot through palm fronds so my shot won't be half as good.
How nice you and Harry got such a treat! And that the photographers and egrets can coexist! That must be some place.
Did you take any overview shots showing what the area looks like?

Great shot. Where exactly is the rookery? My father-in-law lives in St. Augustine. I will have to put that on my todo list when we are down for a visit. How far are you guys from St. Augustine?

thanks AJ. It was one BREATHTAKING photo shoot! I can't wait to go back. The rookery will be active through July...birds nesting, eggs hatching throughout..what a wonderful place it is.

Andy,
life is wonderful! I told harry on the drive home that if this were my last shoot ever...I would be a very happy camper! I couldn't stop shooting....and as I go over my shots..I can see that I was totally inspired with opportunity we had here...I took so many keepers...a first! I
will need a bigger home now...need more walls...

Hi Dee,
Yup, that is what they are doing. And WOW what a great shooting boardwalk they have created. It was fantastic. Harry may have gotten some overview shots; I didn't because I only had my 70-200 with me...next time..now that I know the layout I will bring different lenses.

Hi tim,
The rookery is behind the Alligator farm...I think Anastasia Blvd..Look it up on google "St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Bird Rookery".directions are still in my car. We are about 2 hours away...south of St. Aug. , If you can get down between now and July..DO IT! Amazing photo ops...you just can't believe it!

Hey Trish,
I've worked on the first 350 shots, just about halfway done. I should be posting some after the weekend.
I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your pics and to our next trip to the rookery.
