Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help, I've received an e-mail from a lady at a greetings card publisher who is 'very interested' in my images.

She has asked me how much I charge for the image rights based on a 2 year worldwide license.

Should I reply with a figure, if so any ideas how much or should I respectfully ask her to make me an offer?

Depends!

Read up http://www.danheller.com/

There's a lot of ways to skin that cat.

Ah ha!

Thanks Andy, I've had a good read of the excellent resource you suggested, but i'm not sure I feel any more confident in what to do.

Do you think I should reply by stating it would depend on which particular images and the projected print runs before getting down to figures?

Here is the real question. How much are they worth to you? That is the only relevant issue.

Congrats, sounds exciting!
First thing to do is to find out exactly which photos she wants to license. Then find out the usage- is it for cards? ads? billboards? unlimited worldwide usage?
Do a little research on the company to find out what kind of rates they usually pay - will they be making millions from the usage of these photos?
Do they want exclusive rights to these photos for the 2 years?
All of these things should factor into your licensing fee.

I'd say for 2 year worldwide rights you should be looking at 5 figures- but check out some of these resources, maybe ask on one of the forums on some of these sites.
Good luck and let us know how the process goes!

Here are a few more resources to help you determine a fair price.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I've decided to request more specific details before getting down to numbers, I hope it's the correct approach, time will tell.

Not really. The bigger question is how much are they worth to someone who wants to make money selling them.
