It's been a while since I tried to capture these little guys. I've been watching three of them around the feeders lately, but haven't been able to nail down their routine yet. Then this weekend, I ended up with one trapped on the screened in porch. It took me about 45 minutes, but I finally got it back out into the wild. The most amazing part was hand feeding the little guy. It had been in there for a while and I knew it needed some nourishment, so that's what I did first. It's amazing to hand hold a little feeder and feel the breeze coming off those fast little wings along with the occasional touch. Unfortunately no pictures of this as I was more concerned with getting the little guy back to safety.

So today, I was sitting on the couch, just browsing the internet. I decided to get my lazy butt up and do a little something. So I rearranged the feeders to have the best chance for some good captures.

#1 There he was, just sitting there across the yard. I kept waiting on him to come closer so I could get some shots at the feeder. I'm really wanting a longer lens to get a better shot of these guys.

#2 Still in the same place.

#3 Something a little more interesting at least.

#4 The first try at the feeder. I know it's been a while, but surely I can do better than this!

#5 Ah yes, now it's coming back to me.

#7 and the final for the day.

I went around for some different angles, but the little guys decided to boycott my efforts.

Ended up with a couple of butterfly pics instead.

Nice shots. If you keep a presence around the feeders, or even keep chairs around them, the birds will get comfortable around you. It helps to wear something red. Last year, I was able to get within 3 ft of the feeder and shoot them with a 85 mm.

BFJR, thanks. I was happy to get the little guy back out to his natural habitat. For a while, I thought I was going to have to just hand a feeder inside the porch and try again later. Thankfully, the limb worked.

John68, thanks for the advice. I had not even thought about wearing a red shirt, but that makes sense. I'll have to work on that to get closer.

:agree I'm kinda partial to six... but I like #4 too... seems to have an ethereal quality to it. :)
