View Full Version : REMINDER: SOLD or OLD threads

Just marked a thread as sold this morning about which I didn't receive a PM. It's easy to catch most of them, but I thought I'd make a quick post this morning reminding everyone to drop me a PM to mark your item as SOLD.

thanks! :D

updated guidelines:
Just because of the way vBulletin works, we simply can't give access to thread titles, so must let me know when an item is SOLD (or status otherwise changes). It's my job to do it, so don't feel bad!

1 of 2 ways:
- PM me, with a link to your thread, please (preferred)
- make a new post in your thread "sold!". this will bump it up and I'll see it quickly.

*please don't delete your original posting info! we are working on making this market a better research tool for prices and details - we have lots of room, don't worry!

Also, if you are no longer selling, I can delete the thread and clean up a little around here. All in the spirit of spring cleaning.

thanks! :DAt the risk of asking a stupid question! What is a PM?

Several of you have responded already - thanks!

I did just want to add one small request however: could you please send a link to the thread you want edited? It saves me a few clicks and some looking.

My Sony 828 FS ad seems to have vanished. If it "timed out" that is OK, I didn't realize there was a time limit.

Am I suppose to ask permission before I post something on the Flea Market Room?

Why aren't we allowed to make the change ourselves?
I'm able to on the Buy and Sell Forum over at FM.

It seems it would be easier for you if we could.

It's possible to change thread title editing for regular users in vB via:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Message Posting and Editing Options -> Time Limit on Editing of Thread Title

I don't know if this is feasible, but couldn't the time limit just be set to 43200 (which is 30 days). Most items are sold within 30 days anyway, so users would be able to edit the titles to SOLD themselves. :dunno

I don't know if this is feasible,Feasible yes, but we don't want this dgrin wide, only flea market, if that.

the current system is really easy for me to monitor, and it actually makes good closure in the FS threads. Having that last post at the end which says "SOLD" makes it very clear.

I just monitor all new posts here, which isn't that much, and i catch them all quickly.

May I make a sugegstion ?
on POTN you simply mark the thread closed and it very easy *visually* to see what is for sale/WTB without a lock so you can skip it.
see http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=179825

Your lock icon is further from the text and harder to see.
Also "SOLD" in title is harder to skip (have to read) IMO. Ideally the search would have a way to exclude sold items - right now there are too many SOLD/WTB when you're looking for something. thanks.

right now there are too many SOLD/WTB when you're looking for something.I see this as a good thing, as a seller, don't you??

Again, let me reiterate, I'm not a code weenie and neither are my fellow admins. There may be things vbulletin forum software could do beyond what we have now, but unless you (I mean that broadly) have specific vb suggestions for us, the current system works pretty well for all of you, and very well for me as the mod. It's a flea market, not ebay, it really lives on the involvement of the community and we don't need technical perfection.

but, thanks for the suggestions, as always.

fair enough, it's not ebay (which is a good thing).

Another suggestion: maybe the sticky rules should show under canon/nikon/etc.. since most of us probably only use the sub folders (which are a GREAT idea! I hate having to wonder though all Nikon stuff on FM and not being able to narrow it down). May help people see it before their first real post....

Also, is there a way to automatically get email for a thread you started ?
I get those for posts, but no email when people replied to my WTB tokina post.

thanks again.

of course. it's your user options, under subscriptions.

Allowing members to edit titles is a simple rights administrative function of VBulletin. I have a forum with VBulletin and we allow members to edit titles in for sale section so they can mark sold. Another significant forum besides FM allows this, that also runs VB.

Additionally, rights can be setup by individual forum level, so just because members can edit title in For Sale section, does not mean they have to allow them all over. (I am pretty sure on this)

Just trying to help with correct information, whether it's something admins want to entrust membership with, I can't say. But anything that saves a moderator time is really a good thing, he's got more productive things he can work on likely... Unless he gets paid for every message edited... :deal

Ted, in the future, just toss a new post into your thread - this will make it pop up on my new posts list (to moderate) and also will make it very clear in the thread to any future reader that the item is sold/found/etc.

either way works, I just prefer that one.
