this is an image shot last weekend in the eastern sierras, shot with Canon 5D 17-40L .9 grad filter. I like the shape and contrast that the shadows create, thoughts? opinions?http://www.pbase.com/toddlio/image/100665327.jpg

Hi,

The mountains are very nice, but imo the large rock in the forground really detracts from the landscape. I would crop it out, leaving just the mountains and their reflection.
I think I would also like to see a little more detail in the lower mountains as well- they are way too dark for me!
I know you have no control over the clouds, but i woul d have liked to see a few clouds over to the left , and not hidden behind the main peak of the mountain.
Of course, I'm no pro:rolleyes , but those are my initial impressions.

I like the composition. Alot of photographers forget to include a foreground with their landscapes..Your depth of field is great as well. The light in the lower 2/3rds of the photo is not as nice as the upper and I think you need to brighten up the mountains a tad.

Other than that I think its a good photo..

Cheers

Composition is PERFECT. You have a for-ground, mid, and back...and you didn't put the horizon in the middle. You're sky even has depth with the small cloud. This is TEXTBOOK!

We all hope to product pics like this.

Don't change a thing. The dark shadowed mountians are what makes it dramatic. Too often people are worried about detail in the dark areas. Dark shadows do happen, why we spend so much time trying to eliminate them is beyond me.

I like it a lot. I especially like the clarity and sharpness of the foreground. My eye wants the mountains to be sharper. They are a tad soft. Really nice capture.

I think the reflection of the mountain should be the focus of the picture, is such a nice scenery an dlight, as well as very well exposed but that massive rock in the first plane kills it
