Some very basics

I am still trying to grasp the basics of customization. I understand the examples I have seen so far and the mechanics of achieving a lot of the things. But its where it affects my whole Smugmug site I am not quite clear with yet. There is only one customization page so does that mean anything I do on it will affect every page on my Smugmug site. So if I decide to put say a menu bar on one of my galleries by adding the code on the customize page, surely every gallery will then have the same menu bar. There are lots of interesting mods that are shown on the FAQ page, such as hiding stuff, background images etc. Surely this will apply to everything I have on my site.
I can understand some things can go in the gallery description such as code making a html only page.

I am reading through Customizing Smugmug Simplifed at the moment. Its a superb read and very well presented. It explains the detail very well. Its a shame I cant quite grasp the basics yet or find it explained.

Any pointers appreciated.

General rules in the CSS apply to every page. Any rule can be made specific
by adding the specificity in front.

#myText {color: red;} << every page except for specific exclusions
