View Full Version : Disallow external slideshows

Is it possible to disallow someone from creating a slideshow of pictures in a gallery of mine? I'm about to give someone the code to create a slideshow on their site of one of my galleries, but if they violate any terms in our contract, I want to be able to shut them down. It seems that even with external links turned off on a gallery (I've been testing myself), the slideshow still functions fine (which makes sense I guess since the .swf file is on smugmug.com).
So is there any way for me to protect myself and still provide people with slideshows? I hope so...

External links should do it, sure you were not just seeing what was in cache?

Hmm, I'm not quite sure and will let you know after some more testing. Perhaps with a few other galleries.
On a separate note, it seems that in FF3 the slideshow can sometimes take 1-2 minutes to actually start with just "Read api.smugmug.com" on the bottom left status bar of the browser appearing. In IE7, testing it once, it loaded immediately. Is this the result of too much testing or something?

Correction: sometimes the slideshow doesn't load at all in FF. Why would this be? I have no ad-blocking add-ons installed, btw.

How about duplicating the images in a separate gallery? Then if you want to cut off the slideshow service all you have to do is password that gallery until they are back in compliance.

That's precisely what I was thinking it case allowing/disallowing external links didn't do it. Thanks!
Still trying to figure out why it takes forever to load in FF...

One other thought. You could use the password hint field as a comment field. Not sure how much it will hold, but a "Hosted by www. (http://www.)[your site name]" might draw people to your site to see what their missing.

Sorry, I don't follow. Password hint field where? I'm not password protecting the gallery that the slideshow runs from...

It refers to my previous comment about having a separate gallery and blocking your client for non-compliance by adding password to the gallery. There is a "hint" field associated with the password section in customize gallery. Of course, that's assuming the slide show will display the password screen the same as a regular gallery. It's just another idea, didn't mean to confuse you...sorry.
After posting my comment I went back and placed "Hosted by www.sunglophoto.com" in the hint field of my customer galleries. I give my customers a URL that takes them straight to their gallery which requires a password.

Ah, ok, thanks for the clarification. I don't think the slideshow would show anything if the gallery is passworded, but I haven't tested that...
